Things to do in Guadalquivir River

4.4/5 (20)

The Guadalquivir River is one of Seville’s major tourist attractions and has played an important part in its history, bringing trade and prosperity to the city. The river is considered the most important river in the Iberian Peninsula and is home to Spain’s only commercial inland port, the Port of Seville.

The name derives from the Arabic word “Al-Wadi Al-Kabir” meaning “the great river”. One of the longest rivers in Spain, it rises in the mountains of Jaén province and flows for 657km through Córdoba and Seville, before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean, just above Cádiz. In Roman times it was possible to sail from Córdoba to the river’s mouth near Cádiz but only the 50 or so miles from the sea to Seville are currently navigable.

Cruise down the river and discover the historic city of Seville alongside the natural beauty of the Guadalquivir River. Admire iconic monuments such as the bullring, the Triana district, the towers of Plaza España, the Torre del Oro and much more. Enjoy a daytime cruise as you discover the city from a unique perspective or experience the river at dusk with a luxury dinner cruise and admire the historic city of Seville and its beautiful illuminated landmarks at night. You can also enjoy water sports on the river, including rowing, kayaking and canoeing.
