The Loire Valley, a Unesco World Heritage Site, is located just a short ride from Paris and is known for its magnificent castles, its picturesque villages, sophisticated cities and outstanding wines. There are over 300 castles in the Valley ranging from fortified castles of the 10th century to beautiful residences constructed during the 15th and 16th century.

Some of the more famous Château's (Castles) in the Loire Valley include: the Château de Chambord which happens to be the biggest castle that contains distinctive French Renaissance architecture, Château d'Amboise which was home to King Charles VIII and Francis I, and Château d'Ussé which portrays the image of a fairy-tale castle.

During the late 15th century, King Louis XI, King Charles VII and many of the French royal court settled in the Loire Valley after the end of the Hundred Years War. As a result, many of the castles were built by some of the finest architects and designed by famous Italian artists, including Leonardo Da Vinci who spent the last days of his life at the Château of Clos Lucé in Amboise.

Besides its royal castles, The Loire Valley is famous for the world-class wines that comes from this region. Outside of Champagne, it is the biggest producer of sparkling wine. Many of the vineyards offer tours to their vines and cellars.

Whether you want to tour its castles, the vineyards or just relax at the Loire River while sipping on some of the finest red and white wine in France, then the Loire Valley is the perfect spot for you to spend a day!
