Things to do in Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site

5/5 (4)

The Dachau Concentration Camp for political prisoners was opened in 1933, only weeks after Adolf Hitler became the Reich Chancellor and it was a model camp for later concentration camps. Until the American troops liberated the survivors in 1945, more than 200.000 people were imprisoned in Dachau. 41.500 people were murdered.

Today, the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site is visited by people from all over to remember the prisoners and learn about its devastating history. It is located northwest of Munich in Southern Germany.

About the Visit

History sees Dachau as the site of the first Nazi concentration camp, this destination attracts a high number of visitors all year round. As a place of remembrance, visitors are asked to behave in a manner respectful of the pain suffered by tens of thousands of Jews and political prisoners.

Transfers are also available to and from major German cities; we recommend starting from Munich since it is the closest metropolitan centre and there are a significant number of daily shuttles.

The concentration camp is open all year round from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
