A relatively new route from the many quality hikes around Madeira, this Fanal guided walk features forests, flora and valleys. You'll trek along the slopes of the Rabaçal valley, over heath moorland and through the ancient forest around Fanal during this full day excursion.
Leaving Paul da Serra in the direction of Ribeira da Janela, this three-and-a-half hour hike first takes you to a viewing platform over the Rabaçal valley and then dips down to the river. You'll follow the path to a valley filled with Madeira bilberries before you reach a spot overlooking the forests of Chão da Ribeira and Seixal in the distance.
Then, you'll step through an ancient laurel forest in Fanal, filled with trees that can grow up to 40 metres high, all covered in moss and lichens. The hike comes to an end here, among magical, tranquil surroundings.
