What to expect

Albania is just a short boat ride from Corfu. This often-overlooked country was closed to outsiders for decades and it's only now really beginning to flex its tourist muscles. On this full day excursion, you'll visit the ruins of ancient Butrint, go for lunch and enjoy free time in Saranda.

The tour kicks off with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Butrint. Everyone from the Greeks to Romans to Ottomans left their mark on this ancient town. Walking through its ruins is like leafing through the pages of a living history book. Highlights include the amphitheatre and temple.

A woodland stroll up to the Venetian hill fort will give you great views over the national park and the surrounding wetlands. Afterwards, you'll head for a buffet lunch in the hamlet of Karanxh. Finally there's an hour of free time to explore Saranda before returning to Corfu.

    The guide was fabulous. The tour was well-organised. More information for the return trip - really from the port staff would have been helpful. We were left without knowing which boat we would be on and when it would arrive. Coaches were great in Corfu and in Albania. The buffet was good.

    From start to finish, the tour was excellent and value for money. Thank you to the driver who picked us up, the boat trip, the guides and bus driver in Albania. Our guide was extremely informative and made sure that our group was together at all times. The World Heritage site was a great place to visit and she told us its history every step of the way. Lunch was plentiful and tasty and the stop with free time in Sarande was excellent. What a beautiful place. It’s an excellent trip.

    Lunch was great. Guide was great. Roman ruins great. Transport back to Corfu by sea was very bad. Some kind of ancient landing craft. Only seats were on top with only rudimentary sun canopies for shelter. Boat went through a heavy rain storm, rough sea and torrential rain. Heavy rain blew under the canopies, no protection and no crew. People were panicking. Some tried going down to car deck but no seating there. Every passenger drenched to skin.

    Throughly enjoyed our day from pick up to Albania . Guides were very informative and driver of coach highly skilled in his job.Beautiful views lunch at a fantastic hotel and plenty of free time in Saranda . With cheap prices and seamless transfer back to Corfu .we would highly recommend this day trip.

Theo, som har seilt i disse farvannene i fire tiår, sier: "Jeg elsker lyden av gjester som jubler av glede – lyden av sommer – når de hopper i Den blå lagune for å bade. I tillegg utforsker vi Papanikolis-grotten, som også er veldig populær."Vi går om bord i båten og er klar for en naturskjønn reise over Det joniske hav mot fastlandet. Albania ligger bare en kort båttur fra Korfu. Dette ofte oversette landet var stengt for omverdenen i flere tiår, og det er først nå at turismen begynner å skyte fart. På denne heldagsturen besøker vi ruinene i Butrint, spiser lunsj og nyter tid på egen hånd i Saranda.Etter at båten har lagt til i havna i Saranda tar vi buss videre til verdensarvbyen Butrint. Alt fra grekere og romere til osmannere har satt sitt preg på denne gamle byen. Å gå gjennom ruinene er som å bla i en levende historiebok. Høydepunktene inkluderer et amfiteater og et tempel.Vi fortsetter med en tur til fots gjennom skogen og opp til det venetianske fortet der vi kan nyte utsikten over nasjonalparken og de omkringliggende våtmarkene. Deretter er det tid for buffélunsj i Karanxh. Etter lunsj får du en time på egen hånd til å utforske Saranda før vi tar båten tilbake til Korfu.
